New York City Moving Service and a Jackson Heights Overview

Jackson Heights is a neighborhood in Queens that you can visit with your New York City Moving Service. It known as an urban melting pot because there are many different ethnic populations in the area, especially multi-generational European and Asian Americans. This may be one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the United States. The boundaries are Northern Boulevard to the north, The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to the west, Roosevelt Avenue to the south, and Junction Boulevard to the east.

Preserve your history

When you visit with your New York City Moving Service you will learn that most of the neighborhood is a National Historic District and there are many New York landmarks. The area was a planned development laid out in 1917 when the No. 7 subway stretched from Manhattan to Flushing. The community was initially designed for middle to upper-class workers from Manhattan as a place to raise their families. It was among the first garden city communities in the United States. There are more private parks within walking distance of each other than any other city in the country. Most of them are hidden from view between the buildings, but some of them are quite large, close to the size of Gramercy Park in Manhattan. For most of these parks, you need to have a key to the surrounding co-ops for entry. Because these parks are so desirable, the area in the historic district tends to be affluent.

Become part of the community

Many of the residents in Jackson Heights commute to Manhattan to work. It is only a 10-15 minute commute to 51st Street and Lexington Avenue from here on the express train. When you visit Jackson Heights with your New York City Moving Service, the main shopping area is found on 37th Avenue between 72nd Street and Junction Boulevard. There are also many great places to shop on 82nd, 73rd, and 74th Streets. Roosevelt Avenue is lined with many Latino stores. One thing you may notice as you walk along is the number of trees on the sidewalk. The Jackson Heights Historic District has the largest density of sidewalk trees and greenery in New York.

Get out in the sun

When visiting Jackson Heights with your New York City Moving Service, there is a small community park and playground among all of the private gardens. Travers Park can be found between 77th and 78th Streets, on the north side of 34th Avenue. Between March and October if you visit with your New York City Moving Service, there is also a small farmers market every Sunday. Many community events are held here.

Plan your trip

Jackson Heights is easy to get to with your New York City Moving Service or by public transportation. This is where the IRT Flushing Line (7) meets the IND Queens Boulevard Line (E F G R V) and many bus routes at the 74th Street-Broadway hub. This is the largest subway stop in Queens. The Long Island Rail Road in Woodside is also nearby on 61st Street and Roosevelt Avenue.
